Posted on

Smoothies are an amazing way to load up on fresh ingredients and nutrients that will keep you fueled throughout the day. Whether it’s a breakfast smoothie or an afternoon perk-me-up, these glorious smoothies can really hit the spot.

Sometimes having the full works for breakfast when you wake is a little too much for your body to process, so a glass of delicious feel-good smoothie can be a great option to have. Plus, it’s so easy and fuss-free. Get your smoothies blended and served in literally 5 to 10 minutes, we promise!

Here are our #BusybutWell smoothie tips:

  • Use fruits and veggies that don’t need to be chopped, i.e. spinach, orange, all the berries.
  • Chop and freeze fruits for the week beforehand.
  • Always keep a bag of frozen bananas because it’s the base of almost every smoothie! Use frozen bananas as your base so that you don’t have to blend in ice and save time on blending.

We’ve got 10 delicious breakfast smoothie ideas and recipes for you, but feel free to add anything you like. Leftover spinach in the fridge? Got organic maca powder stashed in the pantry? Feel free to toss that in too and make the most out of your breakfast smoothie for an amazing start to the day.

1. Jackfruit Pineapple Mango Smoothie

This tropical smoothie blends together jackfruit, mango, banana and pineapple for a yummy exotic resort-style breakfast smoothie. It’s so fun that you can even serve this up as a mocktail for a weekend brunch!

Tip: Use frozen banana and mango as this helps to thicken the smoothie and gives it a creamier mouthfeel, since we’re not using any milk here. According to Ayurveda, milk and jackfruit do not mix well for our digestive system so we’re going to leave the milk out.

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 1 cup of fresh jackfruit
  • ½ frozen banana
  • ½ cup frozen mango
  • ½ cup LE FRUIT pineapple juice, fresh fruit juice with no added sugar or preservatives. You can also use this to make your pineapple tarts.
  • Mint leaves, for garnish

2. Orange Goji Ginger Smoothie

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • ½ cup almond milk
  • 1 large orange (or sub with 2 mandarin oranges)
  • 2 tbsp goji berries
  • ½ tsp grated ginger (or sub with turmeric)

3. Strawberry Coconut Basil Smoothie

This deliciously creamy Strawberry Ginger Basil Smoothie is vegan, dairy-free and so dreamy. The strawberry and basil combination work so well together and since you don’t even have to chop your fruit up, blitzing this up couldn’t be easier.

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • ¾ cup coconut yoghurt
  • 12 fresh basil leaves
  • ¾ cup almond milk
  • 1 tsp grated ginger

4. Blueberry Pomegranate Smoothie

This deep purple smoothie is packed with so much antioxidants and is so easy to make! You can even do without the spinach if you want, but it’s blended so seamlessly with the rest of the ingredients that you can hardly taste the greens in it. Serve it up to your significant other who never eats his/her veggies and we promise they’d never know.

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • ½ frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup organic pomegranate juice (no additives nor preservatives)
  • 1 cup fresh spinach (or sub with kale)

5. Almond Date Smoothie

This Almond Date Smoothie is a lovely switch-up from the usual fruity smoothies and a creamy, satisfying morning treat. The spoonful of nut butter adds a nutty flavor to this drink, making it perfect for an early morning beverage that’s kind on the digestive system.

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 4 dried pitted dates
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon cashew butter (or sub with almond butter)

6. Spirulina Kale Smoothie

This Spirulina Kale Smoothie may look like the beverage drank by green goddesses only, but it’s actually surprisingly good! The creaminess of the bananas and almond milk and hint of sweetness from the honey really makes the whole smoothie come together beautifully. One teaspoon of dark green spirulina powder goes a long way — this algae really packs a nutritious punch as it is rich in protein, iron and all the Vitamin Bs. Add toasted coconut flakes for garnish and an extra special treat.

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 1 cup kale, fresh or frozen
  • 2 cups almond milk (or sub with coconut milk)
  • 2 tbsp raw honey
  • 1 tsp organic spirulina powder

7. Beetroot Orange Ginger Smoothie

This Orange Ginger Beetroot Smoothie is an immunity-boosting, anti-inflammatory morning elixir to start the day with. It’s so delicious you should try it even if you don’t like beets. Beets are also a great source of fiber, folate, Vitamin C and potassium.

Because we’re not cooking the beets first, we’ll need to dice them into smaller cubes so that they blend easily. Also go easy on adding them — one at a time, depending on how powerful your blender is. Top your beet smoothie off with a spring of rosemary for a beautiful garnish.

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 1 cup raw beetroot, diced into small cubes
  • 1 cup orange, peeled
  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 1 tsp grated ginger

8. Raw Cacao Banana Smoothie

Raw cacao has a deliciously chocolatey undertone but can get quite bitter on its own. The creamy sweetness of the bananas, raw honey and almond milk balances out the bitterness of this superfood beautifully — and this Raw Cacao Banana Smoothie will be something you’ll keep coming back to. Packed with so much nutrients, this creamy smoothie will also give you all the fuel you need to power through your morning to-do list.

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 2 tablespoon raw cacao powder
  • ½ cup almond milk
  • 1 tbsp raw honey
  • Toasted coconut flakes, to blend and garnish

9. Avocado Kale Smoothie

Of course we’ve got to include creamy avocados in Smoothieland. Avocados are a heart-healthy and nutrients dense food, with a rich source of Vitamin E. It also fills you up as it contains healthy fat so pre-lunch hunger pangs will be a thing of the past. Blending avocados with almond milk is one the most deliciously creamy combinations ever, so you’re really missing out if you haven’t tried this!

Tip: You can also sub almond milk with fresh coconut juice for a refreshing, tropical version of this smoothie.

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 1 large ripe avocado, chopped
  • 1 cup of kale, fresh or frozen
  • 2 cups almond milk
  • Handful of toasted coconut flakes, to blend and garnish

10. Vanilla Fig Almond Milk Smoothie

We’ve been incredibly addicted to fresh figs these days: they are deliciously sweet without being cloyingly so, and they are such a great source of potassium and fibre that’s great for our digestive systems.

Figs are so versatile too — they can be added in Mediterranean-style salads, used as a base for a healthful jam, go well on toast and can be used to make this yummy and slightly decadent Vanilla Fig Almond Milk Smoothie.

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 8 fresh figs, sliced halved. (6 for blending, 2 for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon of sprouted pumpkin seeds (soaked overnight)
  • 1 tbsp raw honey
  • 1 tsp pure organic vanilla extract
